Freia Fine Handpaints sources fibers as much as possible from within the USA. They look for the best quality and price combination and a soft hand to produce a lofty yarn that retains nice stitch definition. By sourcing directly from a mill they aim to keep costs down and their environmental footprint small. Their wool yarns use a blend of Rambouillet, Corriedale, and Columbia wool from sheep raised in Colorado.
To achieve the long color runs in their Ombré yarns, Freia developed their own unique dyeing process. Though labor intensive, the hands-on nature of the process allows them to ensure an even consistency in the yarn and colors over multiple dye lots. The method also means that though Freia yarns will match very well from one dye lot to the next, no two balls of yarn will ever be the same.
