Skills Required: Beginner Level - no previous experience required!

Learn the basics of weaving on a versatile and portable rigid heddle loom in two 3-hour sessions. Note: 4 students max. per class. Day 1: Warp directly onto the loom and use a stick shuttle to begin weaving a small piece of cloth to use for a table mat, purse, or pillow cover. Day 2: Weave off the project, finish and knot fringe, if desired. Discuss washing and finishing techniques to be completed at home.

Tools - Rigid Heddle Loom: You may either bring your own, purchase, or rent a loom for this class.

If providing your own loom, any size and brand is ok as long as it is a functioning, reasonably modern loom. Loom should include 8 or 10-dent heddle; stick shuttle; warping peg; sley hook, and threading hook. Please provide the make and model when registering. Loom must be assembled and functioning properly prior to class!

If purchasing a loom from Twisted, we sell the Cricket and Flip looms from Schacht. You’ll receive a 10% discount on a loom ordered during or before class. Loom must be assembled and functioning properly prior to class!

If you’d like to rent a loom, a limited number of loaner looms are available to rent on a first come, first served basis. Rental rates are $10-15/week (20% class discount applies).

Materials - Either bring your own or before/during class get 20% off on: 450-500 yards of worsted weight yarn for an 8-dent heddle, or DK weight for a 10-dent heddle, in cotton, wool, or blend yarn. Yarn should be washable and smooth enough that the rigid heddle will not abrade it, but should not be ultra smooth. Choose 2 or 3 colors, if desired, for stripes or plaid. Skeined yarn should be wound into balls before class. You’ll also need a few yards of string or waste yarn, and a large darning needle. If you are renting a loom from us, please plan on using worsted weight yarn.

Skills learned: warping loom, rigid heddle weaving, finishing.
