Skills Required: Students must have taken a beginner rigid heddle weaving class or equivalent.
This class is for those who have already learned the basics of rigid heddle weaving, and are ready to explore additional possibilities for color and pattern weaving on the rigid heddle loom. Students will produce a sampler and learn a variety of techniques used to create surface texture, lace weaves, color & weave techniques.
Tools - Pre-warped Rigid Heddle Loom: You may either bring your own, purchase, or rent a loom for this class.
If providing your own loom, any size and brand is ok as long as it is a functioning, reasonably modern loom. Loom should include 8-dent heddle for worsted weight yarn or 10-dent heddle for DK or lighter-weight yarn. Please provide the make and model when registering. Loom must be assembled, functioning properly and warped prior to class!
If purchasing a loom from Twisted, we sell the Cricket and Flip looms from Schacht. You’ll receive a 10% discount on a loom ordered during or before class. Loom must be assembled, functioning properly, and warped prior to class!
If you’d like to rent a loom, a limited number of loaner looms are available to rent on a first come, first served basis. Rental rates are $10-15/week (20% class discount applies). Loom must be assembled, functioning properly, and warped prior to class!
Materials - Either bring your own or before/during class get 20% off on:
Yarn: 100 yards of various yarns, including contrasting colors and novelty yarns from their own stash. To sample color and weave techniques, consider warping half the project width in a solid color yarn, and half the width in a stripe pattern alternating two colors every other loop (1 loop = 2 ends).
Notions: 1-2 pick-up sticks and 2-3 stick shuttles, as well as note taking materials.
Optional: bring paper tags and safety pins for labeling portions of the sampler.
