Tips & Tricks: Interchangeable Needles

At their most basic, the beauty of an interchangeable set of needles is just the ease of having the right size needles for a given project on hand. For that alone, they are worth the price in our book. But the best part? THEY DO SO MUCH MORE!

These little guys are handy for way more than just an abnormally long project. Number one use? You can hook cords together to try on a sweater/shirt while you are knitting it to check size! So much easier and faster than using scrap yarn...

Second best use? If you need to store a project for any reason, you can hook the cable in a loop so you don't have to worry at all about losing stitches. GENIUS.

DIFFERENT NEEDLE SIZES

This comes from Twistedista Emily who absolutely despises any stitches getting caught on the join. If you are knitting in the round, you can make the left needle tip a size smaller since gauge is established by the right needle. That makes it much easier to slide stitches as you work! As an added bonus, this trick can help you knit faster.

For gauge swatches, this is where the interchangeables also shine. Start with the suggested needle as usual. If you haven't gotten gauge with that one, change your needle, purl a row, then keep swatching so you can easily compare.
